Always strive to be better ! Work hard and aim for number one !

Fine. But when we talk about becoming better at performing, we way too often, end up focusing on performance itself, and not the things that actually fuel our performance.

Performance is an output. It is not a constant, but a variable that changes in relation to the resources we have available. Motivation, energy, focus, complex problem solving, compassion, empathy, integrity are all related to how well we take care of our selves.

If we focus on the resources, it is not necessary to focus on the performance. Not when it comes to the performance of our body, mind, and spirit. And since those attributes drive all our personal performance, it makes totally sense to put the energy where it gives us the best return of investments.

For us to be able to prioritise we need to know what we are sacrificing when we allocate our limited resources to specific areas of performance support.

We have the foundation that we know is, well, the foundation.

Around it we need to make sure energy is provided as we constantly use up resources.

We need time to replenish not only our metabolism, but also our need for rest, repair, refocus, and restitution.

Performance is just the tip of the iceberg, is what's underneath the iceberg that sinks ships, and stir up waters.
