Why do we not learn this in school ?

Fundamental understanding of what it is like to be a human being is not taught in school.
How to take care of basic physiological and mental needs are left out of what we believe is the tools needed for a young person, to become a grown up and contribute to society. You should be able to subtract, divide, write, and know history, but when it comes to the basic functions and manifastations of body and the mind the importance are neglected.
We believe in science. In fact science and "truths" are what we base most of the teachings on.
But the science of the brain and the nervous system are not anecdotal in nature. The way we respond to our surroundings are in fact very scientific. The way our body react to the different inputs we receive are real. Why we act and react when we interact with other people are based on our resources, and the level of understanding of our selves.
What if we took a different approach to the teachings of life ?

Mathematical logic does not translate well into the understanding of our own expectations to what a whole human being means. We are taught to favour performance. In our grading systems. How we look at success, and even when we are physical active we "grade" the performance into winning or loosing.
We can't all take first place, and that leaves a whole lot of people to second best.
Learning compassion, integrity, kindness, breathing, physical and mental connections, could all be part of a foundation that could help us succeed in our lives on many levels, not just in how well we perform in a very specific and narrow domain.
